This cake intrigued me because I’m not a consumer of soft drinks, but I love root beer on the rare occasion that I indulge. I used Virgil’s root beer in the cake and in the frosting, but I think Virgil’s is too mild. Something like A&W or IBC might work better, because this cake didn’t taste at all like root beer. It tasted like a delicious chocolate cake. Not a beautiful cake, but this looks pretty close to how it looks in the book (due to the thick frosting).
